MuséoSeine

MuséoSeine is the Musée de la Seine Normande, ideally located in Caudebec-en-Caux (Rives-en-Seine), on the banks of the river it celebrates. It is entirely dedicated to the history, landscapes and activities associated with the Seine, from Le Havre to Rouen.
The museum covers a wide range of themes, including river archaeology, barge trades and the evolution of the river's ecosystem over time. It highlights the ancient tidal wave, the Mascaret, which was once a spectacular attraction.
Its scenography is modern, immersive and playful, using digital devices to tell the stories of the river. One of its centerpieces is the authentic «dernière gribane de Seine», a traditional type of boat. Labelled a "Musée de France", it is an essential starting point for understanding the vital role played by the Seine in Normandy.

Victor Hugo Museum

The Musée Victor Hugo - Maison Vacquerie is located in Villequier, on the right bank of the Seine, and is a place steeped in literary history. It occupies the former home of the Vacquerie family, whose son Charles married Léopoldine Hugo, the famous writer's eldest daughter.

The site is mainly marked by the tragedy of 1843, when Léopoldine and Charles drowned in the Seine, an event that turned Victor Hugo's life upside down.

The museum houses a rich collection of manuscripts, drawings, personal objects and memorabilia from both families. It is essential for understanding the genesis of the poetic collection «Les Contemplations», imbued with a sense of grief. The museum offers an intimate look at Hugo's romantic life, and a magnificent panoramic view of the meandering Seine.
