Villequier is a charming Normandy village located on the right bank of the Seine, at the foot of a wooded hill, with a maritime heritage that is still palpable. The village is famous for being marked by Victor Hugo's family tragedy.
The must-see site is the Maison Vacquerie, transformed into the Victor Hugo Museum, which traces the life of the writer and pays tribute to his daughter, Léopoldine, and her husband, Charles Vacquerie, both of whom drowned in the Seine in 1843. Their graves are in the communal cemetery, the inspiration for the poem «Demain dès l'aube...».
Villequier is surrounded by lush nature, notably the Bois de Villequier, which offers walks with superb views of the meandering river.
